“Worth Trying!”
First Impressions
Upon entering the restaurant, we were immediately greeted by a friendly gentleman and seated upstairs. The decor throughout the restaurant meshed well together. Chef Michel clearly knows exactly how he wants his brand presented.
Expectations set by their website and Google listing matched what I saw in front of me. And that’s a big deal! A casual restaurant coming off “fancy” is just as bad as a fancy restaurant appearing “too casual”. The tables, wall art, and rest of their decor made me feel comfortable. It was kept “casual” without feeling “dingy”, as many other restaurants do.
After a brief moment to look over the menu, our drink and appetizer order was placed. We needed a few minutes with the menu to finalize our entree decisions, but the waiter was back just at the right time for us to order.
Appetizer – Crab Puffs
We ordered the 10-piece crab puffs for our appetizer. They came out shortly after we ordered our entrees. They were plated nicely and looked tasty, perfectly golden brown.
I tried them first without the sweet and sour sauce, then with the sauce. The pastry was delicious, crispy, slightly sweet – but then my excitement fell flat as I realized there was hardly any filling. I could taste the cream cheese, but no crab flavor was anywhere to be found. After my third crab puff, it was clearly not getting any better. I wish I could have tasted the crab filling – I’m sure it would have been tasty!
Thai Tea
I got a Thai tea for my drink and that’s what I tasted next. Smooth and creamy, I was very happy with it. Not too bitter, not too sweet. I would liken it to a lightly sweetened oat milk.
We had time for the appetizer to settle a few moments before the entrees came out. I was pleased with the timing of our entire meal, not feeling rushed or like we had been forgotten.
Entrees – Honey Walnut Shrimp and Lo Mein
I ordered the Honey Walnut Shrimp and SO ordered the Lo Mein. We both enjoyed our food, a pleasant surprise after seeing Eurasia’s mixed Google Reviews (more on that at the end). Although the portion size was far too large for us to finish while dining in, this kind of food should reheat well. Because of that, I won’t deduct points for portion size.
My Honey Walnut Shrimp was presented nicely in a pyramid shape. I enjoyed how it was presented in such a fun way, but when I was ready to eat, I knocked it down and everything stayed contained to my plate. No messes here!
There was good and bad about my shrimp dish. The shrimp itself was a little overcooked, with some pieces being worse than others. It was still enjoyable, but could have been even better. The vegetables and sauce complimented the protein nicely. From other restaurants, I’ve had Honey Walnut Shrimp that was way too sweet. This was less sweet than the “usual”, but that was a big plus in my book.
The rice tasted fine, but I’m not a big rice fan and didn’t eat much. Nothing else to say about the rice. (I mean, it’s just white rice)
Wrapping Up
Finally, shortly after we were done with our meal, one of the waiters stopped by to check in and quickly got us some to-go boxes. The check arrived right after that. On the bill, there’s a QR code that can be used to pay with your phone, how cool is that? I love to see smart usage of technology like this.
The restaurant was generally clean, but the carpet was problematic. It needed some extra TLC, but it wasn’t so dirty that it caused a distraction during our dinner. I liked the decor – it matched the casual environment they set out to create. Overall we had a great time.
Dear Chef Michel
Now back to the Google reviews – which I want to touch on briefly. Eurasia was on our radar due to several recommendations that SO and I received. However, I still checked the Google reviews first and was surprised to see 4.1 stars with ~70 reviews. That’s not very good!
When I looked at the negative reviews and saw Chef Michel’s replies, I was extremely turned off. Dear Chef – please don’t let negative reviews make you lose your cool.
I don’t know you personally but I can tell you this – the way you replied to negative reviews almost made us go elsewhere. The best way to combat negative reviews is by farming positive reviews from all your wonderful customers.
Final Thoughts
Although there is plenty of room for improvement, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Eurasia in Prescott. It’s definitely worth trying next time you’re in Prescott for lunch or a casual dinner. Here are some other thoughts to consider.
Pros:
- Casual atmosphere (on purpose)
- Tasty food
- Adequate service
Cons:
- Quality of cooking leaves room for improvement
- Cleanliness needs some improvement
- Owner’s replies to online reviews
